3D objects in structural geology teaching
Next semester the 3rd year structural geology labs will include 3D printed objects. This is part of an ongoing study investigating the use of such objects in structural geology education with collaborators at both here at McMaster University (Dr. Rebecca Moumblow) and University of Toronto (Dr. Heidi Daxberger and Dr. Tasca Santimano).
EGU 2020 session – “The spectrum of obliquity: A multidisciplinary approach from orthogonal rifts to transform tectonics”
Please consider submitting an abstract to our session on transform margins and oblique rifting at EGU 2020: https://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU2020/session/34921. There will also be a dedicated special issue of EGUs Solid Earth to accompany the session, and we can also confirm that Prof. Laetitia Le Pourhiet from ISTeParis, Sorbonne Université, France will give an invited talk inContinue reading “EGU 2020 session – “The spectrum of obliquity: A multidisciplinary approach from orthogonal rifts to transform tectonics””

Geosciences Special Issue – “Structural, Tectonic, and Magmatic Evolution of Rifted Continental Margins”
On behalf of my co-editors Christian Schiffer and Scott Jess, I would like to draw your attention to our Special Issue “Structural, tectonic and magmatic evolution of rifted continental margins” in the open-access journal Geosciences, which is now open for submissions. Further details can be found here. We welcome research on rifted margins across allContinue reading “Geosciences Special Issue – “Structural, Tectonic, and Magmatic Evolution of Rifted Continental Margins””
ESR Structural Inheritance paper published
Our paper “Structural inheritance in the North Atlantic” by Schiffer et al. has now been published in Earth-Science Reviews and can be found here. If you don’t have access please get in touch. The paper is part of our special issue in Earth-Science Reviews specifically looking at the tectonic evolution of the North Atlantic region.Continue reading “ESR Structural Inheritance paper published”
Fieldwork on the Hamilton escarpment
Had a great morning on the Hamilton Escarpment with Prof. Carolyn Eyles and her students. This work is investigating why some parts of the escarpment may be prone to collapse. In particular, the students are looking at the nature of fractures, their distribution and how this is controlled by stratigraphy.
Guest lecture at Western University
I had a great time today giving an invited talk and meeting people at Western University. Thanks for having me and I am very much looking forward to visiting again for the multi-hazard workshop next month!
